Quest-Y

QUEST –

Your goal is to begin to understand how to repair your equipment and find a buddy to shoot with.

Making a bow – this is optional, but can be a lot of fun learning!

So start with making a basic bow (Training Bow) and arrow! If you are stranded someplace, you may need to hunt or defend yourself against zombies. Recruit a friend to help. This bow will become a training tool for developing shot sequence form in later lessons that you can actually practice drawing and releasing the string without an arrow (dry fire) at no risk. This bow will shoot an arrow but is meant to be used indoors to practice your form without arrows.  Look at these instructions for constructing your “training bow”.

Making a PVC Training Bow  authored by Tony Fontana USA Archery Level 4 Coach

If you do some research on the web, you will see many examples of actual PVC bows being used to shoot arrows. It works, but not really worth the trouble when you have many commercially available bows…unless, you are fighting zombies and only have your lawn’s sprinkler system to defend yourself! There are also several commercially available training bows out there available that are good for strength and form practice that allow you to “dry fire” release without any danger.

Making an arrow or repairing it –

Visit your pro shop again, ask for an old aluminum arrow shaft to work on (shafts should be from 1916 to XX75 and long enough for your draw length…ask them to explain the measurements).

Remind them you are working on your Archers Quest requirements. You need to watch them build an arrow for a customer, then ask them to help guide you through the steps of repairing the old aluminum arrow shaft with nock, point and fletching. You may have to glue the nocks, points, and fletchings on. Your pro shop has the equipment to facilitate this process. You may be able to get mentoring help on this from an instructor or a senior member of the archery club you visited.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT:   Take a digital picture of you and your buddy testing bows at your new archery club or at a safe range, maybe the pro shop.  You will need to upload a picture for this rank below, before progressing further.
